The mission of the Too Sweet Foundation is to provide assistance to community wrestlers in an effort to allow them to reap life-long benefits that are found through participation in the sport.  The Too Sweet Foundation is committed to improving the sport of wrestling, developing outstanding athletes, and producing quality/­educated citizens. This foundation was the vision of Robert “Bob” Gavazzi and Coach Jim Akerly, to honor and memorialize Nick “Too Sweet” Gavazzi whose short life was dedicated to the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.

The foundation is to provide for and serve the people of Western Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas through charitable support of youth and high school wrestling related activities thereby fostering opportunities for local athletes to successfully compete in national amateur wrestling competitions. Such charitable activities may include, but are not necessarily limited to, contributing to the cost of attending training camps or clinics designed to refine advanced wrestling techniques, organizing and sponsoring high level training camps for dedicated local wrestlers, contributing to the cost of coaching education to ensure the local youth and high school wrestlers are learning the sport from highly qualified teachers.

Activities may include:

  • Sponsorship and organization of wrestling clinics
  • Sponsorship of wrestlers for training camps based on board established criteria including financial need, demonstrated leadership, growth potential and community impact
  • Sponsorship of wrestlers for competition based on board established criteria including financial need, demonstrated leadership, growth potential and community impact
  • Organization of inclusive wrestling tournaments
  • Organization and sponsorship of leadership clinics built around the sport of wrestling
  • Fundraising for such activities

Grant Nominations and Requests

Grant nominations may be completed by coaches, club administrators, officials, friends of wrestling, teachers, school administrators, parents and wrestlers.

Grant qualification is based on dedication to and achievement within the sport; expressed need; the requested grant purpose; demonstrated commitment to helping wrestlers and others to develop; and other factors that may be considered by the board.
